Q&A with Dr. Scott Fontana | Dry Eye Syndrome
What is the examination like to determine if someone has dry eyes?

A large part of the examination is learning about the patient's symptoms and lifestyle. The surface of the eye is examined to determine quality and quantity of the tear film. Additionally, we examine the eyelids and the glands within them.

What are the typical treatments for dry eyes?

Many eye doctors recommend the use of artificial tears for patients with dry eye. This does not address the underlying cause of dry eye. There are a wide range of treatments we offer ranging from in house procedures to prescription medications.

Are there any recommendations to help people avoid dry eye?
  • Stay hydrated
  • 20/20/20 rule: Every 20 minutes of computer use, look at a distance of 20ft or more for at least 20 seconds and blink.
